A few weeks ago I went for a walk through a distant corner of Stony Swamp that I had never explored before. I noted a “nice deciduous forest” and said that I would go back soon to look for wildflowers. Today I went back. I went back to this spot because the habitat is a bit different from the others in Stony Swamp and I thought that I might see something different. This clump of Canada Violets was just what I was looking for. I have seen this species before in Gatineau Park but here in the greenbelt they don’t seem to be as common. I think this may actually be the first patch I have found in the greenbelt. I wouldn't be surprised if I now start finding them all over the greenbelt. Sometimes a first encounter like this triggers a cascade of subsequent encounters shortly thereafter in places where you thought you had never seen the species before.
