The Mustard Whites were in the same place where I saw them last week. I was hoping to get a photo like this of a Mustard White showing the pure white top side of its wings. Two of the three Mustard Whites I saw never opened their wings but the third, the one shown in the photo here, always partially opened its wings when it landed on a flower.
There were many Henry's Elfins out today, so many that I couldn't count them. I am sure I encountered at least 35 of them. I stopped to check if they were another species of elfin like the Eastern Pine Elfin, but I only saw Henry's Elfins. Some appeared to be very fresh. I didn't see any larger species of butterflies today. On the bird front I saw a number of Hermit Thrushes at various places again and heard one Yellow-rumped Warbler. The Chipping Sparrows were back on territory in one of their usual spots. It was otherwise quiet for birds.
