Raccoon

This raccoon was aggressively digging around in the leaf litter when I approached. Upon seeing me the raccoon ran to this tree and started climbing. When he got only two feet off the ground he stopped his ascent, looked at me, and after a moment seemed to think of me as no threat and descended back to the ground to resume his work. Maybe this raccoon recognized me because this photo was only taken about 200m from my yard where I often have raccoons rummaging around the compost bin. They aren't afraid of me.

I just love this photo! I think raccoons are very beautiful anyway, but there is something about the tonality of this image, the pose of the raccoon, the colours, that just make this stand out!
