This red squirrel was chased away by a lynx after I took this photo. I chased after the lynx but he was far too quick for me. Luckily the squirrel got away. Later on I saw a least bittern standing out in the open beside the trail. Before I could take the photo, however, a golden eagle swooped down and took the bittern away. If that wasn't enough, further in the bush a wolf was busy eating a moose carcass and when the wolf saw me it came running towards me in an aggressive fashion, showing all its teeth, and I had to scurry up a tree. Up in the tree a boreal owl started attacking me for invading its roosting site and he was joined by a few northern flying squirrels. Luckly the wolf went back to his kill so I was able to climb down. But there was a massasauga rattler at the base of the tree! I ran off, narrowly missing getting bitten, and then tumbled into the marsh where I flushed an anhinga and giant swallowtail butterfly. What a day!! Did I mention that it is also April Fool's Day?
