I've passed by these trees a number of times and recognized them as poplars. I kept thinking they were trembling aspen, but they didn't look right for that. Today, with no snow remaining on the ground, I saw some of their leaves and then knew why the trees didn't look right for trembling aspens...because they were big-toothed aspens! I see mature big-toothed aspens almost every day, but I rarely see younger big-toothed aspens like this. I couldn't recognize these younger trees as big-toothed aspen.
