I also stopped in at Andrew Haydon Park this morning for the first time this year. At my first stop the sun went behind the clouds when I set forth and at this stop strong gusts of winds started when I set forth. The weather was not being friendly to me today and I could only imagine lighting striking at my next stop if there was one. Andrew Haydon Park was my last stop of the day.
The only open water was in the creek at the west end of the park. There a number of mallards were enjoying the water, but as soon as I was within their view the whole lot of them took to the air screaming in terror. I don’t think I had ever seen mallards as frightened of a human before as I did then. It was odd, especially so considering how friendly the mallards at this park normally are. Gloomy weather following me around and ducks terrified of me; I don't know what to think of it!
At the park I had my first Ring-billed Gull of the year. In this photo a person can be seen standing on the sailing club spit. He was flying a kite in the strong winds. The kite was so high that I needed my binoculars to make out the shape and color of it.
