It was late in the afternoon and the sun was creating a nice backlighting effect on the trees in the background while the denser coniferous trees in the foreground remained in deep shade. It looked great to my eyes, but as is often the case when I try to capture a "creative" landscape, it didn't turn out as well as I hoped.
