March 21, 2008 marks a significant tradition uniquely held in Barangays San Pedro Cutud, Sta. Lucia and San Juan,
small and quiet barrios in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga, Philippines.

On this same day, the whole Catholic Church commemorates the Death of Jesus Christ with the celebration of Good Friday.

Different traditions are observed all over the country throughout the Lenten Season,
but Fernandinos have a distinctive way of reliving this manifestation of faith with its observance of the annual Lenten rites
which include the detailed reenactment of the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ

My personal point of view...this is a "total" misunderstanding of the christian religion.
Although reenactment of the death of Christ reminded us of the sufferings and sacrifices of Christ,
it does not mean that we have to suffer again to gain salvation.
Christ had sacrificed himself already for us so that we may have eternal life in heaven.
Because no one can do anything to get forgiveness from God except to have faith in Jesus Christ.
That's all it takes to be saved.
Just say I believe in Jesus Christ who died for our sins.

I hope none of these devotees get sick or die from the wounds inflicted on themselves.
I personally believe that their income level is not even enough to buy medicines for these wounds and if anyone will die,
he will die in vain...such a waste...

The event was organized properly with ambulance, police protection was plenty (many carrying long arms) and was generally peaceful and orderly.
It was only the exit part that became really bad.
Everyone was rushing to get out and ironically, I don't see any police guiding the people
which resulted in a monstrous traffic jam of people and cars.
I hope the city will learn from it and improve their exit plan next year.
