Mayoyao

Pronounced by the locals as Majawjaw, later by Spaniards as Mayawyaw, then adopted by Americans as Mayaoyao
and finally the official spelling in modern Philippines is Mayoyao.

Situated around 1500 meters above sea level, the climate is around 12C at night and around 22C during the day when we were there in February.
With a population of around 16,000, almost everyone knows one another.

Mayoyao, famous for the kilometers of rice terraces and built hundreds of years ago is part of the Philippines pride and treasures.
It is also the most beautiful Rice Terraces in the Philippines.
It took seven hours by bus to get to Banaue (the most famous rice terraces because of its proximity to Manila)
and another three and half hours by jeepney in ROUGH roads to Mayoyao.
It actually took us seven hours of jeepney ride from Banaue to Mayoyao because we stopped along the way to shoot more of the terraces.
The truth is, we couldn't stand the tossing and shaking inside the jeepney so we opted to stop every 1 hour for a 1 hour break.
And don't forget to bring a face mask during the dry season or you will get all the dust "powder" free of charge.

Our thanks to the local government of Mayoyao, headed by Mayor Romeo 'amigo' Chulana
for showing us the best of Mayoyao and making our photo safari the best ever.

Be sure to read the small notes at bottom of each image which I have tried to describe each one of them.
