Wednesday 5th October 2005 - Day 291
At the risk of someone here grassing me to my employers, we've been having a "what the heck" day at our latest media idea - to dumb down... sorry, reword Weather Forecasts, so that the emphasis is not on bad weather in places where few people live - i.e. Wales, Northern Ireland and Northern Scotland - and more on good weather on populated areas, and along motorways, so isolated thunderstorms becomes mainly warm and dry... or similar.

I hate to think how Tornadoes and Hurricanes would be dumbed down!
Years ago, Live TV - of News Bunny, and Topless Darts fame - had as one of its gimmicks Norwegian Weather, with the weather girls dressed in Evening gowns, presenting the weather in Norwegian. However, the very last frame was of a summary map in English. Live TV, god bless them, had realised that to deal with viewers limited attention spans, they needed to present the important information as easily as possible.
Just to make sure that I am following this new advice, the walk I took at lunchtime was along a mostly straight footpath, as above...
No wonder my head hurts :)
