Mostly straight

Wednesday 5th October 2005 - Day 291

At the risk of someone here grassing me to my employers, we've been having a "what the heck" day at our latest media idea - to dumb down... sorry, reword Weather Forecasts, so that the emphasis is not on bad weather in places where few people live - i.e. Wales, Northern Ireland and Northern Scotland - and more on good weather on populated areas, and along motorways, so isolated thunderstorms becomes mainly warm and dry... or similar.

See http://www.timesonline.co.uk/newspaper/0,,172-1811808,00.html

I hate to think how Tornadoes and Hurricanes would be dumbed down!

Years ago, Live TV - of News Bunny, and Topless Darts fame - had as one of its gimmicks Norwegian Weather, with the weather girls dressed in Evening gowns, presenting the weather in Norwegian. However, the very last frame was of a summary map in English. Live TV, god bless them, had realised that to deal with viewers limited attention spans, they needed to present the important information as easily as possible.

Just to make sure that I am following this new advice, the walk I took at lunchtime was along a mostly straight footpath, as above...

No wonder my head hurts :)

I like how you put a new spin on what might normally be a common straight-lined path. Maybe your story explains our weather forecasts here where cloudy days with a little bit of sun are partly sunny, but sunny days with a few clouds are partly cloudy?

Wonderful ! TFS !

Enjoyed your explanation for your title ... was looking very hard to see a straight line for a while there ... ;)

Thanks a lot for this photo, which I like. Now, I know why my husband, the meteorologist, tells everyone "we had a little damage from Hurricane Katrina". No walls, no floors--a little damage. Weathermen!

I like it Lee.

Fantastic white line!

foothpath...i thought it was a narrow road with heavy traffic going thru it... :))
Sheena Woodhead05-Oct-2005 21:54
Footpath? Hope you walked on the left hand side!
northstar3705-Oct-2005 21:35
I think its a cycle path (no not psychopath). And I think there is probably a sunny interval.
Di05-Oct-2005 21:14
Wow, that IS a narrow road! Lovely colors.
Stu05-Oct-2005 21:12
That's a narrow road!
beverley harrison05-Oct-2005 21:08
oh no! you're going through a mid line crisis!! (sorry;))
Guest 05-Oct-2005 21:05
what is that white stuff on the road? It is disheartening to hear your news about the potential changes in the weather forecasts. Why can't the powers that be understand that it is better to bring people up to a higher standard/level than the opposite? Maddening! I like your picture. :)

I was thinking this is a veeeery narrow road. The weather is already a guessing game show out here anywhay !!
Al Chesworth05-Oct-2005 19:34

Dan Chusid05-Oct-2005 19:05
[waiting for the topless weather forcast to begin...]
Robin Reid05-Oct-2005 18:23
I am aghast ... putting a spin on the weather. That pains me. Good to see you wryly observing it by photographing this straight and narrow path! ;-)

Cool line there, and looks like you got a little sunshine there
