The Last Picture Show

Saturday 27th August - Day 252

Okehamptons' Cinema closed last year, when the owner/manager died. No one wanted to take it on. Since then, the building has fallen ever further into decay, and the local youths complain louder that there is nowhere to go in the evenings. They have a point... Latest news is that has been bought for housing development, which doesn't help the situation much.

I saw this one though, and laughed...

This time last year I was travelling to Boise :)

Well, we had no cinemas and then they opened a multiplex in the middle of town, but your situation seems a travesty.

Always a sad sight to see a familier part of the community disappear.

They turned ours into a 'nite' club :-(

Too bad. Going to the movies was such a huge part of my youth.

Nicely done. Don't you just miss these old cinemas as you pile into your local overpriced and faceless multiplex.

I hate seeing old buildings go to ruin! Or being torn down for housing developments! Sad, like the demise of our drive-in theaters! Powerful shot though! Especially your angle and the lighting!

Sad when nothing is provided for the youth..to do.

What a lovely Deco building ... its a pity it's been left to ruin.
I think it'd be a real adventure to wander around inside that baby ...!!!!
(Are you an explorer Lee ;) ...?)

Happens all the time around here.

Maybe it is superstition that will not allow others to take over the building. I find it interesting how one can have such a big building just let fall to pieces, when there could be good use for such.
