Tulips unleashed

Monday 17th January 2005 - Day 30

The problem that I have with winter nights, is that following work, there is such little light that it is hardly worth going outside with the camera. Especially when the rain is hammering at the window. However, I've decided to experiment a bit, learning some skills in the process.

I was taken by the colours of these tulips - bought, not grown I hasten to add. However, I just couldn't get a satisfying picture, the green was so dominant, and I needed something happening. Short of buying in a wind machine - not enough room and all that - I allowed my imagination to be unleashed a little.

PS - Levels, Magic Wand to select greenery, used channel mixer to convert greenery to mono and tone accordingly, eraser to restore some areas of white selected above, radial blur, then adjusted opacity. Cropping and framing.

I tend to work on a new layer for every stage, allowing some flexibility with what I have done

I really like that darkness that surrounds them. A very beautiful effect. You did an incredible job capturing them and your treatment is great.

Very dreamy! I like the swishy-ness of it! (see - I can be technical too!)

All the stuff you did is Greek to me but you surely came up with a beauty of a picture.

This is a wonderful effect Lee. It's like flowers coming out to play at night.

This is wonderful, Lee. It looks very realistic and is hard to believe that it was done in PS. The soft green tones really make the flowers themselves stand out. Nice feeling of movement as well. Isn't Photoshop fun :) Well done!
