Now onward to Victoria, our first stop was the port town of Echuca. It's best years were during the later half of the 19th Century, when it was the river head for the export of Timber and Wool. Once the railway became established the fortunes of the port subsided considerably. What is visible today is a shadow of its former glory.

Nevertheless, the town is base to the largest fleet of operational paddle steamers in the world (allegedly), which are now run for the tourist trade.
