It's probably been a very long while since any letters were delivered to this mailbox in Chesterfield,
Idaho, yet it seems poised to patiently wait, just in case one day it's services are needed. It can be
found across the road from the stately Higginson-Holbrook home, one of the 27 or so old buildings
still standing in Chesterfield--many of which are being lovingly restored by decendents of the
original Mormon families that once lived here. The town was founded in 1880 as a stopover for the many
travelers of the Oregon Trail, but when the railroad bypassed the town and folks no longer traveled
the Oregon Trail, the town faded and died. For more information on this interesting and very real
ghost town, visit: http://www.outdoorplaces.com/Destination/secret/chesterfield/index.htm
