Around 15 years ago city management intended to cut down all the trees along the boulevard, so that the foreigners approaching Odessa from the sea could enjoy the boulevard's buildings. Residents stood guard round the clock, hugging the trees. To persevere, from the tzarist era, through the Intervention and occupation, and to perish from the idiocy of the post-Soviet bureaucrats? Odessites had defended the boulevard. Hence the caption: "I was lucky to stroll through it. More than once. May the generations walking behind me be as lucky".
