A Typical Warmup






Dancers spend a lot of time on the dance floor. Not dancing but sitting, laying, stretching and working out. With this gallery I have attempted to show how dancers warmup and prepare for performance on that floor. It is an hour before "CURTAIN" and this is what is happening on stage!

i love your site it is truly amazing and beutiful as a dancer it is great to c how u captured both the beauty and pain of dance so peopl e don't think it's all point shoes and tutu's. THANK YOU KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK

this is a beutiful gallery.... and oh so very real... if you truely were striving for an accurate portrayal you've achieved it above and beyond my expectations to anyone who doesnt dance themselves -kudos

I love all of you rpages expecially the ones in black and white they are so much more real and show how hard dancing is and though it may be beutiful is isalso VERY hard. It also shows that every can be in black and white:)

Richard -- I love these images. It is a great candid study and having this kind of access is golden.
I can already feel the concentration by the dancers, a kind of psyching up for their performance. I'm hoping to have a chance like this someday with our local ballet.

This works so much better in black and white than in color. Beautiful.

Say what you like but this is definitely stronger in mono than in colour. Yes, the colour shots are great but mono is timeless. The art of monochrome photography; no distractions due to clolour. All you see is the shape, impact and composition becomes a far greater issue. Monochrome is harder, far less forgiving and when you are good at it, and dar, you definitely are, the impact is twice as strong.

I recognize some familiar faces, but miss the plain background. I guess that you would be able to shoot at a lower ISO and at F2.8 to focus just on the subject but then againm the entire scene is the subject. These primadonnas, (and I wonder what a male ballet dancer is referred to...) are gracious. You capture them in great light, full of emotion, concentration and elegance. This is another series that gets my vote, and deepest respect.
