Midsummer Night Rehearsal

With this gallery, I have tried to show a typical evening rehearsal session. It begins after more than an hour of work at the Barre followed by 30 minutes of vigorous work on the floor. There are several pieces to rehearse with different groups of dancers...So, when dancers are not rehearsing, they are watching, working on their shoes or costumes, doing homework, and in some cases sleeping. Yes, sleeping. This gallery was shot over 2 rehearsal evenings. I used my Canon 5D set at ISO 800 and 1000 and my 70-200 f2.8L IS.

Nothing beats this gallery. This is legendary stuff. I just keep on returning to these. Perhaps it is because of the rising stars like Garet. I saw her again in action on DVD (MSND). What a magnificent performer... I can hardly imagine that this is the hard training that preceeded it.

If I could vote again, I would. This really is teh best gallery that I have come across. I love everythingfrom a beautiful landscape to a great portrait but to capture the atmosphere behind the scenes like this is magical.

I think of this as a "tone poem" of the dancer's lives and work. Like a piece of music, it's various pieces are all harmonious and fit into a whole that tells a story. They're gorgeous!

Whow Richard, you will need to change the wording of your intro. Change "tried" to "succeeded". This is a work of art in its own right. Journalistic, story telling and with a beautiful subject. You got my vote!

A very interesting gallery; it shows a side of the ballet that we don't usually see. You have managed to capture the actions and expressions of these young dancers beautifully, and with sensitivity. All interesting shots, with great b & w tones and lively compositions. Excellent work.
