Guard Duty Station

This shot was taken just before dark. Guard duty is a necessary and lonely job filled with apprehension and fear of those sounds "out there".

Our guard duty stations were sand-bag bunkers... overlooking a long valley. Had several bunkers positioned...with some armor back-ups on both sides. Only M16s in the bunker.... One night... flares went off... guns started shooting...and in the AM...they found a dead tiger just outside the wire.

Really a deeply unnnerving shot. The vagueness of the background and darkness upfron give a palpable sense of fear. V.

That pretty well spells it out. This image is severe. Regarding the fear aspect, it reminds me of the saying: "When the only tool you have been given is a hammer, every problem begins to resemble a nail." Priceless image, and the grain adds a haunting quality. g
