This is a common and fairly unique member of the "blue" or "mosaic" darner group. More chestnut-brown coloration overall with reduced top spots on the abdomen. The thoracic side stripes are unnotched, straight, and somewhat narrow (wider than in Variable Darner but narrower than in Black-tipped Darner). This and the Lance-tipped Darner are the only two species in our area with wide wedge-type claspers.
