Primarily a species of the far north, this "blue" or "mosaic" darner was not discovered in Wisconsin until 1998 and is known from only a few northern counties in the state. On 30 August 2008, some friends and I visited my favorite bog pool amidst a large muskeg in Iron County and discovered several individuals -- a new county record! Aside from their specialized habitat, note the somewhat narrow and distinctly bent (not notched) thoracic stripes, along with a black crossline on the face.
