Blue Dashers are small, boldly-marked skimmers commonly found at lakes, ponds, and slow streams all across Wisconsin in mid-summer (peak = July). Both sexes have boldly-striped thoraxes, white faces, and amber wing patches. Males have a powder blue abdomen with dark tip and green eyes. Females have a dark abdomen with pairs of parallel yellow dashes on its top. The male Eastern Pondhawk is most similar but that species is larger, lacks the zebra-like thoracic striping, and has a green face.
