Chequamegon Bay at Thompson's West End Park, Washburn, Bayfield County, 29 November 2008

Not good photos as the day was dark and the bird was way, way out but note the small rounded head, small straight bill, uniformly dark gray neck and upper face, pure white throat and hint of dusky band at base of neck. This bird was present with a Common Loon (nice for comparison!) and represents only our 3rd area record for this species. Ironically, the last was on 28 November 2006 at this same location (though I think this bird is a juvenile and thus not the same individual). The other record was of 3 individuals (!) in mid-late October 2006 simultaneously at Bayview Park in Ashland County.
