Every year several sorts of Egret nest in the Eucalyptus trees on 9th street in Santa Rosa. I never pictured egrets in trees till I got here.

Egrets and herons nest in trees by habit. The trees are called a "rookery." If the trees are in Florida or Louisiana (maybe other places as well) below the tree is usually water with alligators in it to keep the predators away from the eggs and chicks. Your bird is a snowy egret. You can see several florida rookeries in my galleries. Oh...yah, great picture.

Nice timing on the photo. It seems so unusual the first time one sees the large birds like this in trees.
