Pattaya is the tourist capital of the East Coast and certainly NOT typical of a Thai town. Despite, in many respects it being somewhat seedy and tacky, it also has some very interesting and beautiful places to visit and of course much night life with many restaurants, bars, cinemas etc. The adjacent area known as Jomtien is certainly quieter and more family orientated but still has many restaurants and bars to enjoy in the evening.
