A selection of shots taken with my much new treasured Canon EOS 5D Mk II camera which I purchased here in Thailand in March 2012. As a retired guy I waited until the 5D MkIII was released and brought this wonderful 5D2 at a nice promotional discount price which I could afford. My initial impression of this well respected camera model is just awesome and no wonder it is a big winner for Canon. The upgrade from my old EOS 40D is massive as it has taken me into a whole new world of possibilities with its amazing dynamic range which extends my old EOS40D range considerably, and full frame gorgeousness of course too. Love this camera and will try to illustrate it's prowess, for those who may be interested, with some sample shots in this gallery.
Well I have to disagree as I also have used an excellent Lumix GF1 (with essential to me EVF) and a Canon S90 both top end compact or ILCC cameras and they are seriously as expected no match for any recent Canon or Nikon DSLR camera and particularly not the full frame models. I am not saying these shots are compositionally anything special but a first few shots out of my new camera and more will be added when I have time. There are of course far more technical benefits of full frame than just printing bigger pictures I assure you.
Also of course you have to also allow for the fact that I am using Canon L lenses which are not cheap but of undoubted higher quality then any on a compact camera. Compact cameras have their place though with their portability and excellent results in the right conditions (lighting) but are photographically still very limiting of course.
This is really a forum discussion though but just wanted to add a quick reply to you. No I am not knocking compact cameras at all as they have there very real uses and many now give superb results (usually though only in the right fairly limited though more usual conditions).

Nice enough shots; but either could have been taken with pretty much any modern camera.
"Full frame" might allow you to print a bit bigger, but I have printed 30x20 with a small Sony compact with excellent results, how big do you need to print?
The 5D2 has reasonable dynamic range but some of the latest smaller cameras match or surpass it, and neither of these shots has extreme shadows or highlights that might stretch things.
Sorry, don't want to sound negative; enjoy your new camera.
