Located 236 kilometres south east of Melbourne Tarraville is a quiet little town which was once a booming stopover point for the gold prospectors making their way across country from Port Albert to the Omeo goldfields.
The Christ Church is a rectangular timber Gothic Revival which was built in 1856, this was Gippsland's first Anglican church and it is now not only the oldest wooden church in Gippsland, but also is listed on National Estate records as Victoria's second oldest timber building.
The Church is no longer running regular worship services, but is still available for special services such as weddings, funerals and baptisms and Good Friday services held there each year. The building is well preserved, but the shingle roof has been replaced in iron.
