Pelican Feeding

San Remo, Victoria.

Pelican feeding San Remo
The Pelicans are fed daily at 12 noon on the foreshore in San Remo near the jetty. The Pelicans have been fed there everyday for many years, and they never forget their lunch!
Lunch is a laid back affair for both people and pelicans. Each day, a volunteer from the Fishing Co-op brings approximately 15kg of fresh fish off-cuts down on to the sand and hand feeds the pelicans, much to the delight of onlookers.
From about 11am, you can see between 15 and 30 of them making their way to the shoreline to await the spoils. Standing about a metre high they gather on the beach whilst visitors get up close and personal to take photos.
Anyone is welcome to watch, and whilst spectating is free, the co-op gently encourages donations to assist them in caring for the birds.
Many Silver gulls also flock to the jetty to try and get a free feed, along with the family of Giant Stingrays that live under the jetty and often come out to feed on the scraps!
