The Hazelwood Power Station is a decommissioned brown coal-fuelled thermal power station located in the Latrobe Valley of Victoria, Australia. Built between 1964 and 1971.
On 3 November 2016, the owners Engie a French Company announced that the entire Hazelwood plant would be closed as of the end of March 2017, giving the workers and local communities only five months notice of the closure.
The rehabilitation goal for Hazelwood mine is to provide a safe, stable and sustainable landscape that reflects community aspirations and the practicalities of mine rehabilitation.
Currently, Hazelwood’s end of life plan is for the mine to be a large lake, surrounded by gently receding slopes and revegetating the area with trees and grasses.
