Very unusual Spider's Web

I found this unusual spider web in the bark of a Paperbark tree in our front garden. I have not seen the spider so I have no idea which species it is.

It really looks like a funnel web...there are a couple of tree funnel webs and they in particular like paperbarks.

Looks like a bird's nest to me or a monstrous spider! Cool images.

Certainly looks to be rather large resident/s needing big holes like that, maybe Kaye is right! Excellent series of shots Barbara. v

Interesting web, but something mach larger than a spider put those 2 holes in it. AU has such interesting wildlife.

Not sure what to say except that whatever it is, you've captured and presented it very well Barbara.

Are you sure it's a spider's home? Lots of birds use cobwebs to cover their nests, like the Wagtail.

I agree with Jim... can't imagine how big it is!!! V

Such a tangled web we weave.

Looks like a very intricate home, with a front and side door. Let us know what you find.
