RTHK News: Thousands of HK teachers stage protest against reform
Several thousand people have staged a protest in Central demanding the government reduce the workload of teachers. Chanting slogans, the demonstrators called on the government to slow down the pace of education reforms. They also want the Permanent Secretary for Education, Fanny Law, to step down. This follows Mrs Law's comment questioning whether the suicide of two teachers earlier this month was related to education reforms. In response, the government said it recognises that the reforms have increased the workload of teachers. A spokesman said extra resources have been provided to help teachers cope with the additional work. These include the hiring of more teachers and teaching assistants.
