Cayuga Methodist Church-Cayuga MS

Cayuga, Mississippi was named after Cayuga Lake in New York. This unincorporated community on the Old Port Gibson road had a post office from 1829-1906. According to U.S. Census data the population of Cayuga in 1900 was 74 souls. General Grant's army marched through Cayuga in May of 1863 during the Vicksburg campaign. Other than the Church the most prominent landmark is Yates store which stands almost next door to the church. Mr. Yates, for many years, had a weekly column in the Hinds County Gazette newspaper. In the 1970's the Jackson Metropolitan Library system had a branch library in one of the Sunday School rooms of this church.
