In the foreground, water converges from falls to the right and left, as well as from the falls in the background, leading to additional choppy waves. At the time of this photo, the Little Falls gauge was at 4.7 feet, which is not unusual. "Flood height" begins at 10 feet. The highest recorded was 28.1 feet in 1936. The river is narrower and therefore deeper at Great Falls than at Little Falls.
