Monarch on Milkweed

Here is a monarch actually seated on a milkweed plant. It is difficult to tell just how many eggs each female butterfly lays during her life, but the average is probably from 100 to 300. Researchers have studied egg numbers in captive females; Monarch butterflies average about 700 eggs per female over two to five weeks of egg laying, with a record of 1179!
