John Jr Fox

John Jr. was a farmer in Montgomery Township. When he married his father gave him 80 acres.

The first wife of John Jr. was Luciena Emeline McGahey whom he married 12/12/1833. There were 3 children by this marriage: Mary E., William D., and Sarah A. Luciena Emeline died at age 32 years old.

On April 4, 1844 John married Mary Louise Woodworth. After bearing 6 children, she died at the age of 28. The motherless kids had to take care of each other and help their father maintain the home.

John Jr. married a third time to Mrs. Mary McGahey - and they had no children. (Thank goodness, eh?) Mary or "Granny" Fox as she was called in Lawrence Co, Ill - married John Jr. Dec 1865 and transferred her church membership. She was a devoted christian. "Granny" was well loved by many and the old home was known for many years as the Granny Fox place. Her step-sons David Woodworth and Egbert Ancil looked after her needs and when they bought her a cook stove sometime around 1900, she was not a bit happy. She had always cooked in the fireplace and saw no reason to change. She died in 1905.
