From Left to Right:
Vicki, Spud, and Annette Anderson,
Dwight Blackert (on right)
Denny Anderson (bottom)
During the War, Grandma Blackert kept writing letters to Spud to tell him where she thought Dwight was and when she thought Dwight would be coming home. Finally at the end of the war, both were in England waiting to be shipped home. Dwight was kind of the head of his group to see that everyone made their beds and all of that sort of thing and Spud went over to see him and he said, "I looked up and down the rows and the only bed that wasn't made was Dwight's. So I knew that was his bed." Everyone else's was made.
Shelley’s Note: I always loved this picture. I can’t imagine the emotion of surviving the horrors of war and finally being home safe. The fierce and tender way he has scooped his girls up in his arms, his son close in front, his wife at the camera…This is a priceless moment
