When it came thrashing time on the farms,
All the farmers would rotate helping each other out with
Fields and shared equipment.

At that time, Joe Greenwithers owned the only thrashing machine.
It’d take about an hour to get running. They’d get started early – about 0400-0430, after a big breakfast.

Once, after thrashing over at the neighbor’s, Grandma Blackert asked Hank,
“What kind of pie did you have at the neighbor’s?”
He said, “Jam Pie”
“Jam pie?” his mother asked.
“Two pie crusts jammed together. ” Hank joked.
He wasn’t a big talker, but always managed to be witty.
