The Hill Country of Sri Lanka is a revelation. Fantastic vistas, Tea plantations, waterfalls, lush forest-clad hillsides, cold misty wind-swept moorlands and of course the astonishing and wonderful city of Kandy!

We spent 4 days in the hill country -two at the old colonial St Andrews Hotel in Nuwara Eliya (a hotel that would not be out of place in the Scottish Highlands!) and the remaining two days at the modern, well-appointed and beautifully-located Hunas Falls Hotel about an hour from Kandy.

We visited the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy, spent a day hiking over the bleak moorland of Horton Plains to the amazing viewpoint at World's End, walked the trails around Hunas Falls and visited the Hakgala Botanical Gardens.
