Straddling the provinces of Sevilla & Huelva the Donana area ranks as one of the best wetland birding sites in Europe. Most of the Donana Parque Nacional is not readily accessible however there are a number of visitors centres on the edge of the park. After good winter rains these areas are tremendous for birding with one of the top sites being the Jose Antonio Valverde Centre in the northern marshes. This centre can be difficult to find but is well worth the effort. Other great areas include the 'mother of marshes' by El Rocio & nearby La Rocina whilst the area around the Dehesa de Abajo is also excellent.
This gallery holds images taken on short family breaks in the Donana area in April & October 2004. During the April 2004 trip we stayed in cabins at a campsite adjacent to El Rocio for 4 days before driving up to Extremadura; in October 2004 we rented a villa in Hinojos for 7 days.
