I hold an intense fascination for raptors which stems from early childhood. They are the epitomy of grace & elegance.
These iconic & spectacular birds have come to represent the very essence of Scottish wilderness yet paradoxically they are also our most persecuted birds. Fortunately we live in increasingly enlightened times & though raptor poisonings & illegal killings continue, habitat protection/ restoration work & re-introduction programmes have made considerable headway. Red Kites, Sea Eagles, & Marsh Harriers have all returned to the Scottish landscape whilst populations of species such as Peregrine & Osprey continue to grow.
Most of our raptors are understandably wary so obtaining good images of these birds will always be challenging. This gallery is clearly a work in progress & I would hope to replace poor quality images with better over time though never at the expense of disturbance to these magnificent birds.
