A successful, very adaptable species found on almost any body of water having some marginal vegetation. These are common but misunderstood birds which have a very interesting breeding biology. Very young birds are often looked after & fed by 'helpers' which are usually their older siblings. Adult pairs are however exceedingly territorial & it is not clear when a maturing 'helper' may become a liabity!
