This species of Wood duck is native to temperate eastern Asia. A very ornamental species these birds have escaped from captivity & now breed in the wild in a few areas of the UK. The bird photographrd was one of a pair on Loch of the Lowes in Perthshire. These birds nest in treeholes & will often use nestboxes put out for Goldeneye.
