A fantastic & highly charismatic wee sea duck.
Its old Scots name of 'Cold & Candlelight' is both evocative & singularly appropriate, both in reference to the subtle markings of plumage & to its haunting yodelling call.

Nice gallerie of Long-tailed Duck,Steve.I have seen some now in March off shore Varanger with flocks of Steller's Eiders and some King Eiders.
