Tufted Coquette (Lophornis ornata) male feeding

Not uncommon at the Asa Wright Centre -these wee birds are early risers which begin feeding at first light & then disappear as the other more aggressive hummers arrive. Coquettes are small-flower specialists which will feed from small low nectar-yield flowers that other hummers ignore. They will feed on forest-floor flowers & low shrubs up to tall canopy-emergent flowering trees.
