Chiffchaff

Eden Estuary hide (Fife council hide)

One of our earliest migrants. A species which is readily confused with Willow Warbler.
This image shows the dark legs & short primary projection typical of this species. Other diagnostic features are the supercilium being much more prominent before the eye than after & a fairly dark eyestripe which divides the white eyering to the front & rear whilst the lower crescent of the eyering appears more prominent. The call note of Chiffchaff is also subtly different from Willow Warbler whilst the song is very clearly different.
