These ungainly loping antelope have a constant presence in the Mara but during the migration numbers swell dramaticaly. Despite their unlikely appearance & loping gait they can cover large distances in a small period of time & are constatntly on the move even mating & giving birth on the hoof.
The subspecies of Wildebeest found in the Mara-Serengeti is the Western White-beareded Wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus mearnsi).
