White Rhino (Ceratotherium simum) mother and calf

Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya

White Rhinos are probably not native to Kenya and certainly the Southern White Rhino is most definitely not (the almost extinct Northern White Rhino ranged through the Northern Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Chad, Uganda and Sudan in historical times and probably had an even wider distribution).

As a consequence of rhino poaching in southern Africa it was decided to translocate some Southern White Rhinos to private game conservancies (Ol Pejeta & Lewa Downs)and state-run national parks (Nairobi & Nakuru) in Kenya where they could be suitably protected.
