Rook (Corvus frugilegus) burying a pinecone

Musselburgh Lagoons, Lothian, Scotland

Corvids are well-known for collecting and hoarding excess foods in the autumn (fall) but I have never before seen this behaviour with Rooks. This bird repeatedly flew off to nearby conifers where it collected pinecones before returning to bury them in the soft turf.
