So how do elephants graze?
Very effectively!
The trunk is used to grasp a clump of grass & tear it off. If the grass comes up with roots it is whipped from side to side in the trunk or knocked against the front leg to dislodge the dirt. The trunk moves at quite a speed when the animals are grazing and the herd advances rapidly as it grazes.
