The Sri Lankan subspecies of the Asian Elephant is the largest race of this species.
Due to previous excessive trophy-hunting during the British imperial era the gene pool of tuskers has been greatly depleted and now only about 5% of all males carry tusks (female Asian Elephants don't carry tusks).
