Common Pheasant female (Phasianus colchicus) dustbathing

Glen Quaich, Breadalane, Scotland

Pheasants dustbathe to keep skin parasites under control. Whilst this behaviour is undoubtedly instinctive, having watched these birds I can't help thinking that they thoroughly enjoy the experience!
